Sister Marie José de la Rosa has taken on the role of first full time staff nurse at Cristo Rey New York High School in East Harlem, New York. She assists the students in any aspect of wellness, especially when it comes to managing Covid-19 and chronic illnesses. Sister Marie José works with the students to maximize their time present in school and, most importantly, prevent severe illness by promoting wellness practices and early detection. Sister is grateful for the opportunity to share in the lives and health of these young people as they live and prepare for a future fueled by their faith filled education.

Sister Maria Burns has begun ministry as a volunteer Penn State Health Holy Spirit Hospital. Sister loves the opportunity to meet people and provide a listening ear and a bit of pastoral care for those in waiting rooms and such. She places booklets in the waiting rooms for a bit of uplifting reading while waiting for appointments. Several days a week she staffs the front desk helping them to find their way. Each weekday morning Sister helps with breakfast trays and providing water to patients. With her cheerful smile, she scurries about returning wheel chairs to the entrance, flowers to patient rooms and is happy to chip in as needed. Sister is loving her new ministry and looks forward to continuing it for the foreseeable future.

When Sister left the area for Germany, the leaders of St. Anthony’s youth group, Passaic, surprised Sister Mary Amata with a farewell party on Friday evening. Some of the young adult leaders, who are “graduates” of the youth group, brought their young children to the celebration. (bottom right)
